Terms & takedown

Tell Someone is a place to say something anonymously. Everything below is written plainly on purpose. If any of it is unclear, ask.

Getting something removed

If a post is about you, names you, identifies you, or is untrue and damaging, email us and we will take it down while we look at it.

remove@tellsomeone.org

Include the post number (the #0000 under each one) and a line about why. You do not need to explain yourself at length, prove who you are, or involve a lawyer.

We aim to respond within 2 business days. Anything that looks like it identifies a real person comes down first and gets discussed second.

What you may not post

Some of this is enforced automatically the moment you press post. The rest is enforced by a person who reads the queue.

What we do with what you write

Posts are published immediately and publicly. Anyone can read them, vote on them, screenshot them, and quote them anywhere. Assume what you post is permanent and public from the second you post it. We can remove a post from this site; we cannot remove it from someone else's screenshot.

We may remove any post for any reason, or no reason. We may block someone from posting again. Neither requires notice or explanation.

You keep whatever rights you have in what you wrote. By posting, you give us permission to publish and display it here.

Nothing here is verified

Every post is written by an anonymous stranger. Nobody checks whether any of it is true. Do not treat anything on this site as fact, and do not make a decision about a real person based on something you read here.

Privacy

No accounts. No sign-up. No advertising. No analytics or tracking scripts.

We do not store IP addresses. To stop one person flooding the site or voting a hundred times, the server needs to recognise a returning visitor, so it converts your IP address and browser into a one-way cryptographic hash and stores only that. It cannot be turned back into an IP address. We also store the two-letter country your request came from.

Your browser remembers which posts you voted on, on your device only. That never reaches us. Clearing your browser data clears it.

If we are served with a valid legal order, we hand over what we have — which is the post, its timestamp, a country code and an irreversible hash. We cannot produce an IP address, because we never kept one.

If you are struggling

If what you came here to say is heavier than a confession, please talk to someone who can actually help. In Australia: Lifeline 13 11 14, or text 0477 13 11 14, both 24 hours. Elsewhere, findahelpline.com lists services by country.

The boring part

This site is provided as is. We do not promise it will work, stay online, or keep your posts. We are not liable for anything that happens as a result of using it or of something posted on it, to the extent the law allows. Nothing here excludes any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
